The second stage in lucid dreaming is learning how to direct your awareness within the dream. This is a skill that requires patience and practice but can be a whole lot of fun to learn!
Lucid dreaming is a process that happens automatically, however, this doesn’t mean that everything in your mind will appear in your dream. In order to influence the dreams narrative the way you wish, your motive needs to hold a certain amount of energy for the images to appear. The best way to do this is to gravitate to the area of the dream that holds the most amount of energy for you. If you’re having trouble determining where this is, or maybe you feel so excited that you’re not sure how to direct your energy at all, take a moment to perform a physical test, such as passing your finger through your hand, like you would in your reality checks. This will help you to get grounded so you can begin your lucid exploration.
Now that you’re lucid, grounded, and ready to explore, look around and observe the characters in your dream scene. Is there someone that stands out to you more than others?
One of my favourite parts about lucid dreaming is conversing with the characters around me but this may not be as easy as it sounds. Typically, a newly developed character will lack the sufficient energy to hold a conversation with you, in fact, you may even find you’re interrupting them.
Over time you will learn how to spot these characters from a distance, but until then, try to engage with the characters that are featured in your dream before going lucid. Walk up to them and say, “tell me something I need to hear!” This simple statement will open the door for a truly magical experience, because now your dream will be offering you a direct response, in a language that you already understand!
There are endless amounts of elements and activities to engage within the lucid dreamscape. Some are more difficult to achieve than others but as they say... the more you practice, the better you'll become... and this is so true for lucid dreaming! For now, if you're a beginner, this is the perfect place to start.
Happy dreaming!
